Much to celebrate

Mother Doris Reception - St. Luke's Episcopal Church

We recently had much to celebrate at St. Luke’s. We honored Reverend Doris Westfall, who served as our interim priest over the past year and a half. We thank you, Mother Doris, for all you have done to help us on this part of our journey, and wish you well as you embark on the next phase of your own.

Two members of the St. Luke’s family had their marriage blessed as their 25th wedding anniversary approaches in October.

The Lord Jesus has given us so many reasons to be joyful. Let us give Him thanks and praise!

St. Luke’s bbq

St. Luke’s recently kicked off the summer with our new combined 10AM service, annual bbq (thank you to Dave and Chris who pulled hotdog and pulled pork duties) and a visit from Bishop Wayne Smith. The vestry hosted a breakfast and discussion with Bishop Smith.

This year, we also had the pleasure of shopping for some beautiful Olive-wood handcrafts from The Holylands Arts, an organization which supports more than 500 Christian families in the Bethlehem and Jerusalem areas. A big “thank you” to Raad and Sandy from The Holylands for sharing these gifts and bringing the story of these struggling families to St. Luke’s. More information about the Holylands Arts’ mission, along with items available for purchase can be found at their website at www.theholylands.org.

Now that summer is officially underway, please note St. Luke’s summer office hours: Mon-Wed, Fri 8:30am-12:30pm.

Have a safe and fun summer!

Lots of fun was had and many walked home with great prizes. Thanks to all who showed up, to the volunteers and event organizers especially Barb Rumley, and to our prize donors. We hope to see you all again next year!

Christmas Eve Music & Service

PoinsettiasIt’s hard to imagine Christmas is upon us. Yet, here we are, two days away. For many of us, it’s been a lot of hustle and bustle, and not a lot of rest. But, this is the time that we should be resting…and reflecting. We know Christmas isn’t about all the commercialism, but it’s so easy to get wrapped up (literally) in the gifts, shopping and decorations. As a visiting priest suggested to St. Luke’s recently, this time of year is our pop-up “reminder” – on the busy smartphones of our lives – of God’s unending love for us delivered through His son, Jesus Christ.

We invite you to join us on Christmas Eve for a joyful celebration of the birth of our redeemer. The evening begins with a brief music program at 4:30PM, featuring guest instrumentalists and vocalists, and our very own Praise Ensemble. The worship service begins at 5:00PM. So, don’t ignore this pop-up! Please join us for this evening of song and praise as we remember the true reason for Christmas.

Feed My Starving Children

Mobile Pack 2015Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. This year, St. Luke’s is once again partnering with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church to help pack 500,000 nutritious meals for Feed My Starving Children. The Mobile Pack event takes place October 21-25, 2015 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. We invite all to volunteer for this fun and rewarding event.

Additionally this year, St. Luke’s is stepping up our efforts by raising $300 ($220 provides 1,000 meals) to help Good Shepherd in its goal of 500,000 meals packed and $110,000 raised. We hope you will consider donating to the cause. No amount is too small, especially in the fight to end childhood hunger. If you aren’t able to be with us physically at the Mobile Pack event, this is a good opportunity to contribute to a necessary effort.

Please visit http://stlukesec.org/?post_causes=feed-my-starving-children for details about our efforts and how you can donate.
